Show the math

Currency totals round to cents. Sub-dollar unit rates use extra precision; very small rates use scientific notation. Calculations retain unrounded values.

What this means

This establishes underlying vehicle economics. Use the separate Service Call / Travel Cost calculator to cost a particular round trip.

Worked example

$6,000 fixed costs and 12,000 miles give $0.50/mile. At $4/gal and 20 mpg fuel is $0.20/mile. Add $0.10 maintenance, $0.02 tires and $0.03 other to get $0.85/mile before driver labor; $1,200 annual driver cost raises it to $0.95.

How the math works

Fuel/mile = price per US gallon / miles per US gallon. Variable/mile = fuel + maintenance + tires + other. Combined/mile = annual fixed/miles + variable/mile + annual driver allocation/miles.

About this estimate

One vehicle or consistently defined fleet unit, US gallons and miles. Fuel economy must be positive. All annual allocations use the same annual mileage. No IRS allowance, route lookup or customer-trip pricing is included.
