Calculations retain numerical precision. Displayed quantities are rounded to significant digits, not to cents.

What this means

This tool uses the straight peripheral milling convention. Surface speed and effective cutting diameter determine RPM; RPM, effective teeth and feed per tooth determine linear table feed.

Worked example

At 10 mm effective diameter and 10π m/min cutting speed, RPM=1,000. Four effective teeth and 0.05 mm/tooth give 200 mm/min table feed. In imperial units, 1 in diameter and 100π ft/min give 1,200 RPM; two teeth at 0.001 in/tooth give 2.4 in/min.

How the math works

Metric: RPM = cutting speed(m/min)×1000/[π×diameter(mm)]. Imperial: RPM = cutting speed(ft/min)×12/[π×diameter(in)]. Table feed = RPM×effective teeth×feed per tooth. 1 in=25.4 mm and 1 ft=0.3048 m exactly.

About this estimate

User-supplied parameters only; the defaults demonstrate arithmetic, not cutting recommendations. Straight peripheral milling excludes turning feed/revolution, thread milling, chip-thinning adjustments, machine RPM/torque limits, tool overhang and material-specific decisions. Displayed fractional RPM is a calculation, not a machine setting guarantee.
