Show the math
The primary result uses your selected units. Converted quantities are secondary; displayed decimals are rounded.
What this means
A footprint is two-dimensional. Volume includes a third dimension; a floor area is not a material volume.
Worked example
A 10 ft × 5 ft rectangle is 50 ft² or 4.645152 m². At 1 ft depth it is 50 ft³, 1.851851852 yd³, or 1.4158423296 m³.
How the math works
Area = length × width; volume = length × width × depth, in the selected units. For converted results, square the linear conversion factor for area and cube it for volume. 1 foot = 0.3048 m; 1 inch = 0.0254 m; 1 yard = 0.9144 m, exactly.
About this estimate
Straight rectangular sides in a single selected length unit. Zero dimensions are allowed and produce zero area or volume. Area mode ignores depth. No allowance for irregular shapes or material waste.
