Show the math

Estimates use unrounded numbers. Displayed amounts round to cents.

What this means

Waste is added before purchase rounding. Whole packages can leave additional material beyond the waste-adjusted requirement.

Worked example

For 100 units, 10% waste and 12 units/package: requirement is 110, packages are 10, purchased quantity is 120 and excess above requirement is 10. At $8/package, cost is $80.

How the math works

Adjusted requirement Q = net quantity × (1 + waste / 100). Packages = ceiling(Q / package quantity). Purchased = packages × package quantity. Excess = purchased − Q. Cost = packages × package price.

About this estimate

Package content and required material use the same unit. Waste is an addition to net demand, not a percent of purchased stock. Fractional packages cannot be bought. Excess excludes the allowance already included in demand.
