Show the math
Estimates use unrounded numbers. Displayed amounts round to cents.
What this means
A straight run has one more post than sections. This deliberately bounded model does not infer gate posts, corners or shared endpoints.
Worked example
A 100 ft run with 8 ft maximum spacing has 13 sections, 14 posts and 7.692307692 ft equal spacing. Three rails per section require 39 rails. At $10/post and $2/rail, the priced subtotal is $218.
How the math works
Sections = ceiling(length / maximum spacing). For positive length, posts = sections + 1; for zero length, posts = 0. Actual equal spacing = length / sections. Rails = sections × rails per section.
About this estimate
One straight, ungated, open-ended run with two endpoint posts. Panel width must suit the calculated equal spacing; cutting, foundations, fasteners, waste, labor and taxes are excluded. For gates or corners, prepare a layout-specific takeoff instead.
