Show the math

Estimates use unrounded numbers. Displayed amounts round to cents.

What this means

Gross profit shows the dollars left after entered job costs. Gross margin divides that profit by revenue; markup divides it by cost. A negative result indicates a loss.

Worked example

A $2,500 job with $800 labor, $450 materials, $200 subcontractors, and $50 other costs has $1,500 total cost. Gross profit is $1,000, margin is 40%, and markup is 66.67%.

How the math works

Total cost = labor + materials + subcontractors + travel / other + additional cost. Profit = revenue − total cost. Margin (%) = profit ÷ revenue × 100. Markup (%) = profit ÷ total cost × 100.

About this estimate
