Show the math

Estimates use unrounded numbers. Displayed amounts round to cents.

What this means

The same dollar profit has different markup and margin percentages. The matrix applies common illustrative markups to your entered part cost.

Worked example

$100 cost with 25% markup sells for $125, earns $25 gross profit and has 20% gross margin. A 25% target margin instead requires a $133.33 displayed price.

How the math works

Price = cost × (1 + markup/100), or cost/(1 − margin/100). Markup = (price − cost)/cost × 100. Margin = (price − cost)/price × 100.

About this estimate

Single part, before tax, payment fees and unentered overhead. Matrix percentages are examples, not recommendations. Zero cost makes markup undefined; zero selling price makes margin undefined. A selling price below cost shows a loss.
